Counselor, Bilingual (Spanish & English)
Hello! I am Valerie Trevino, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and School Counselor based in San Antonio, Texas. My journey into the mental health field is fueled by a deep-seated passion for helping individuals and families navigate life’s transitions with resilience and clarity. As a first-generation Mexican-American graduate and the daughter of an American Navy veteran, I carry a profound respect for service, heritage, and the courage it takes to pursue higher education and personal growth.
My therapeutic philosophy is grounded in a systemic, trauma-informed approach. Whether I am working with an adult navigating a major life shift or a child processing big emotions, I believe in meeting every client exactly where they are. In my practice, I blend evidence-based techniques like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with creative, expressive modalities. I am particularly passionate about Play Therapy-based theory, utilizing tools like Sand Tray to help younger clients (and the young at heart) communicate and heal through a language that transcends words.
I earned my Master’s in School Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio in May 2016 and I am a proud member of the Texas Counseling Association (TCA). I bring over 10 years of experience as a School Counselor, alongside dedicated time in private practice focusing on high-acuity individual therapy. My expertise includes crisis intervention , individual counseling , and providing responsive services that foster actionable growth for clients navigating life's transitions.
Beyond my professional life, I am a wife and a mother of three school-aged children. These roles keep me grounded and remind me daily of the beautiful, complex balance required to thrive in modern family life. I am honored to walk alongside my clients as they work toward becoming the best versions of themselves.
